Who we are

The sustainable management of solid waste requires the active participation of all stakeholders. For this reason, the pilot project brings together the private and the public sectors and hopes to mobilize the population of San Juan del Sur as well as its businesses.

This implies the involvement of hotels and restaurants in the community in order to separate waste at the origin, as well as have it be separated in the homes of the residents of San Juan del Sur. These efforts are complimented by a component of training and communication. Local school kids will help with the training, much of which will have to be done door to door. This way, the proper waste management will start with their families and grow as they share the information with their neighbors.

The pilot project is financed by Pelican Eyes…Piedras y Olas Hotel & Resort, DED, a German aid organization, and the Mayor’s Office of San Juan del Sur. Comunidad Connect is administering the pilot project and facilitating the cooperation between Pelican Eyes…Piedras y Olas and the Mayor’s Office. Thus, this project establishes a new model of cooperation between a public institution and a private company, with a conscience for the community and the environment.
